The Ghana Retail Map 2019, a go-to guide for retail-decision makers in Ghana

The Ghana Retail Map (GRM) is an annual report focusing on Ghana’s retail sector and provides an independent and objective market intelligence to retail decision-makers to understand the retail landscape.

Our maiden publication which was themed ‘Digitize or Die’ focused on consumption patterns and usage attitudes of customers who patronize– Food and Beverages, Health and Personal Care and Fashion products from online and offline stores.  The survey explored changes in consumer shopping behaviour and its impact on the retail industry, trends and consumption patterns of consumers in the offline or online retail stores in Ghana and identified the drivers and inhibitors influencing consumers purchase decision. We surveyed consumers across three locations in Ghana (Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi) to produce this flagship report.

Ghana’s retail sector has grown considerably in the past decade thanks to an expanding middle class, which has thus resulted in a number of international, notably South African retail chains flocking to set up shop in the country. Other factors that have spurred the growth of the sector include a relatively young population, and an underdeveloped retail market. Due to the relative political stability and a favourable investment climate, Ghana has benefited from more foreign direct investments, making the sector more developed in comparison to other markets in the region.

The Ghana Retail Map is designed to serve as a go-to guide to current and prospective investors looking to understand the Ghanaian retail space.
